In 1983, the Ernst-Thälmann-Park in Prenzlauer Berg was the first large inner-city housing estate in the GDR. What is special about this residential area, in addition to the central location, is the large park with an artificial pond.

During the planning phase, the architect Erhardt Gißke made sure that a tree was planted for each of the 4,000 residents. In 2014 the Ernst-Thälmann-Park was placed under monument protection.
