Berlin Calendar 2015: Spirit Berlin
Berlin Calendar 2015: Spirit Berlin
Berlin - a multi-religious city with an eventful history. The s.wert calendar 2015 "Spirit Berlin" shows how cultural and religious diversity has manifested itself in stone and concrete and in the cityscape over the course of time.
You can see buildings by Prussian master builders as well as churches by post-war modernist architects and sacred buildings by contemporary architects.
For example, the Friedrichwerder Church by Karl-Friedrich Schinkel, which is now used as a museum, and the New Synagogue by Eduard Knoblauch and Friedrich August Stüler, which was partially destroyed in World War II and now houses the Centrum Judaicum.
The Memorial Church by Egon Eiermann and the Church of St. Ansgar in the Hansaviertel are built testimonies to the will to rebuild in West Berlin after 1945 and are outstanding buildings of post-war modernism.
The Chapel of Reconciliation - a modern clay building that was erected in 2000 on the former death strip, is part of the Berlin Wall Memorial and commemorates the divided city and the Mevlana Mosque under construction in Kreuzberg testifies to the diversity of Berlin.
